Its archeological site "Nirou Chani" is
strongly connected with the islands history.
In 1918 the archeologist excavated a very
significant, well preserved, Minoan mansion.
It is assumed that this was the residence of
a high-ranking member of the clergy, because double-horns (a
sacred symbol of the Minoans), altars, big hatchets as well as
other objects of worship were found.
