The village of Koutouloufari is situated above Hersonissos port and is build near the foot of the Charakas Mountain.

It was named after a priest called Koutifari, who befriended the villagers, when they moved their village, which was under threat from pirates, from the coastal area up into the mountains, he gave them land around his church for them to build a new village, the village prospered and is known for its olive oil, wine and almonds.
