Sissi Village

Sissi Village is located 40 km east of Heraklion, Sissi is different than neighbouring Malia or nearby Hersonissos. What's missing are the thousands of tourists and multitude of bars and clubs that result in a more hectic atmosphere. In Sissi, life flows at a much more easy and calm pace

There are paths for people who love biking and for those who prefer walking there are the beautiful roads of the village and the magnificent country around Sissi where you can enjoy the natural environment.

Sissi is a small hospitable and rather quiet village, it offers accommodation to suit all tastes, with hotels from all categories to family run hotels and campsites.  On the small curved roads overlooking the sea are cafes, taverns and restaurants for you to relax and unwind in, whilst you take the traditional Cretan food or European cuisine.

On the east side of the village there is the sandy beach of Boufos which has large waves, further round is the smaller, more private beach of Avlaki.

The small and picturesque port of Sissi looks like a big natural swimming pool and is ideal for walks by the sea. In the port there is the picturesque anchorage of the amateur fishermen where they moor their boats, as Sissi has lots of fishing places.

On the short across from the port there is a lovely sandy, where you can take a dip in the crystal clear blue sea. Immediately after the beach there are some beautiful gardens, flowing with palms and colourful flowers, which combined with the sea makes Sissi port very unique.

Milatos Caves

Just before entering the village of Sissi, on the right is a road that leads up to the Milatos Cave.

The cave has 8 entrances and is more a series of caverns than one cave.

In 1823 the Turkish army trapped 2700 women and children in the caves and 15 days later after guaranteeing their safe passage out the Turkish army killed all the men and sold the women and children into slavery in Egypt.
