Do I need to get a E111 form to cover me for Medical Emergencies?
The E111 form is now no longer valid. From January 1st 2006 you need to obtain a European Health Insurance Card (EHIC).
You can get a EHIC card by: * Calling: 0845 606 2030 * Clicking on: https://www.ehic.org.uk/InternetPROD/home.do * Pick up a form from your local Post Office.
This will enable you to receive medical treatment that becomes necessary, at reduced cost or sometimes free, when temporarily visiting a European Union (EU) country. However, to obtain treatment you will need to take a European Health Insurance Card (EHIC) with you
YOU STILL NEED MEDICAL INSURANCE AS WELL AS THE NEW EHIC CARD
The EHIC is not a substitute for travel insurance since it may not cover all health costs and never covers repatriation costs.
The EHIC card does not cover situations wheree patients go abroad in order to be treated in hospitals overseas. |
