Flares came to Malia in May 1998 and was the brain child of Babis, Donna and Sarah. At this time Donna and Sarah had both been working in Malia doing different Bar Jobs and wanted to set up their own bar in Malia. At the same time Babis was looking for a new idea for the Pegasus Bar in Malia. Together Babis, Sarah and Donna started the first ever 70s Bar in Greece. Flares was unique in many ways, but the decoration was memorable, which included 20,000 vinyl 33 / 45 records stuck to the wall.

DJ Babtastic and the class of 2006

Flares bar had cars from Grease (Film) in the main area, and the dance floor was in the style of night fever.

On the opening night in May 1998, it was not like it is today, there was no big flashing signs and no massive painting all over the bar. It was just the Pegasus Bar but painted in 70's colours with a wooden sign outside, which the animation below was take from.

It was groundbreaking in many ways, one of the main reasons was that it was Malia's first Theme Bar. Flares would not be Flares without Donna's and Sarah's and Babis influence in the beginning. Donna Retired in October 1999, to go an "settle down". One half of the DJ pair DJ Chris Parker has not been seen or heard of since 1999. Chris started a transformation into a wildebeest and many think he headed to the mountains, but nobody is sure. The master of the wheels of steel, DJ Babatastic has gone from strength to strength, becoming Greece's top 70s DJ.

Flares still has the original ingredients today, and has not changed that much, the bar is still packed every night, and would not be here today if it was not for the original idea of Sarah and Donna back in 1998.
